OMG I love this place so much. You need to try the vegan 'Granny Boab'. They'll provide you with a dairy free bun, fake meat burger, fake bacon, caramelised onions and a can of juice of your choice for £10. Perfect paired with a ginger beer in my humble opinion.

The chips are also very tasty. Just your standard style skinny chips, nice crunch, not soggy.
I always get mine with cajun spice. 7/10. They also do delivery.

I go here quite often with my partner for food and then we head along Duke Street for either a glass of wine in Tibo, coffee in Tapa or some pints in Redmonds. Duchess is also close by and not bad for a couple of pints.

My partner is a major meat lover so he always enjoys a burger with added brisket, ribs and/or spicy chicken wings. It's a place we can both really enjoy, and we do!

I visited dennistoun bbq for a lunch work one day. On the Main Street in dennistoun with quite a non-descript front it would be easy to miss this place. It was very quiet inside and for the most part, sans booths and a jute box, reminded me of an American diner . You place your order at the front and the have to pick it up again when it's ready. The staff at the front were pleasant.  The menu was simple but littered with mouthwatering options so it took us about 10 minutes to weigh thru all the options. They also have a lot of American soft drinks so that is always fun.

I opted for the pulled pork sandwich and seasoned French fries. My friends ordered the chicken burger and then the Kinney. I thought my pulled pork was good but it does not come close to being the best pulled pork I've had. I thought the slaw was average and piled on a bit too heavy which at least countered the dryness of the pork. I've spent a lot of time in the land of barbecue back in the states so dennistoun barbecue was always going to be a hard sell. For me the place hasn't disappointed. It's a tasty spot for lunch and while it's not the best barbecue I've had it's definitely better than average and a real gem for being this side of the pond.  And my friends had nothing but raves for their chicken burger and the Kinney so I imagine those are also great options. If you are out and about in denistoun don't miss out on grabbing yourself something from here.

Wondering what to do with the day, my guy suggested we take a walk (even though I wanted to drive) to Dennistoun Bar-B-Que as it was a nice day and we had been wanting to try this place out for quite some time.

We bundled up for the weather and headed out.  We got there in no time flat (surprisingly) and walked in to what smelled like loads of hamburgers grilling and little ventilation.  Not a good first impression because even though a large group ordered a load of burgers, the restaurant itself just had a smell of old grease not the yummy smokey bbq-y smell I was longing for.

After standing at the counter for a few minutes, we were finally told to take a seat and order at the counter when ready.  We sat towards the long bench table in the back and looked over the menu.  Loads of burgers on offer, both beef and chicken, two BBQ options, sharing plates, some ribs, wings and drinks were listed.  I knew exactly what I was in for:  the brisket sandwich.  Having grown up in Texas, I'm pretty particular about my brisket so I was really hoping this was going to be as great as I had built it up in my head.  My guy ordered the pulled pork to compare it to what we make at home.  Both sandwiches came with slaw and we also ordered a side of mac and cheese and a side of seasoned fries.

Sigh.  I wish I could give the food more than three stars, but I wasn't too impressed with what we were served.  Sure the sandwiches were massively packed with enough meat to feed an army, but I wasn't excited that there was about a cup of slaw then piled on top of the sandwiches.  No bother, I scraped mine off and put it to the side.  The meat on both sandwiches were quite dry.  The rub on the brisket was pure pepper, which, in small amounts would probably taste good but it was actually burning my mouth.  There was very little sauce on the meat, which was fine by me, but the pepper was so overpowering, I couldn't finish the sandwich.  My guy didn't mind finishing the rest of mine and quite enjoyed his sandwich although dry.

The slaw was great, reminded me of KFC slaw from when I was a kid (probably totally different to what they might sell now) and the mac and cheese was good and the fries were good.  I splurged and bought myself an A&W rootbeer as I LOVE rootbeer and wish I could find some worth drinking here.  My guy stuck with a diet coke.

All in all, I'm not totally sold on this place.  I felt really sad leaving being homesick for good BBQ and not having that feeling satisfied here.  The staff are lovely and the dining area itself is quite nice but I think I'll try something else next time we're in.

Tip: Regular cans of juice £1.20, imported juice (A&W) £1.50. Well worth it for the taste of home!

The Dennistoun Bar-B-Que was to be the venue of my very first UYE (organised with lots of steering from the wonderful Briony C!). I wouldn't say it was a complete 'disassster dahling' but had it not been for Briony C and Graeme H it would've been a pity party for one! Anyway, it's not about quantity, it's about quality ;-)

As it happens, it was one of the hottest nights of the year so far. Thinking it would be fairly quiet because of this (and that it was a Wednesday) we were shocked to find it was completely stowed! Luckily, we found a table and after much deliberation went up to order.

Having starved myself all day I jumped in at the deep end and ordered the Columbia...a short wait later it arrived. Jings, criven help ma boab it was huge! Literally, like the biggest burger I have ever clapped my eyes on! Graeme suggested I may need cutlery, too right I did, my gob was never fitting round that bad boy in a month of Sunday's! So in I dived...meaty burger, double bacon, pit pork, slaw and cheese...heavy on, well everything! I tried to finish it, I really did, but this burger had me beat (that has never happened before!) and at £9.50 it was an absolute steal!

My only saving grace was that I'd walked up so I could walk back to burn it off, then home to vegetate on the sofa. Talking of sofas, I've discovered they deliver too! Hellllo hangover munchies!!

So that was it, my first visit to the DBBQ and my first UYE!  Here's a few useful pointers for other newbies to the DBBQ like me:
    - don't eat all day
    - you can't reserve a table so may need to wait
    - it's not huge inside so fine for small groups but not so great for larger ones
    - you won't regret going :-)

I waited along time to come here. Was it worth it? Yes, definitely.

"You've ordered quite a large amount of food for only 2 people"

"....I know....I want to try EVERYTHING"

    So I did.

Ribs were perfect and the depth of flavour from the rub was awesome. Fat chicken wings smothered in Richmond tangy, smoky BBQ sauce were perfect. BBQ pinto beans were deep and rich and unctuous and the Chicken burger with pulled pork was amazing. All perfectly cooked.

    2 things.

    1. The pulled pork on the burger was the best I have ever had.

    2. Only thing stopping it getting 5 stars was the brisket, which is what I was most looking forward too. I think I was just unlucky as I got the dried nub ends and only a couple of soft slices in there - flavour wise it was spot on.

    Excellent Saturday lunching.
